Obituaries

John Orlando, 93 of Shrewsbury, passed away on November 29, 2017.  John was born to Vito and Agatha in Youngstown, Ohio.  He graduated from Ohio State University with an Engineering Degree.  He was a Mechanical Engineer with International Nickel Co in Sterling Forest, NY before his retirement.  He and his wife Ann have resided in Shrewsbury for the last 19 years.

John is survived by his wife of 70 years Ann (Lukcik) Orlando; his son John Orlando and his wife Deborah of Vernon, NJ; his daughter Michele Rankin and her husband Don of Fair Haven; his grandchildren Robert, Christine, Stacey and Stephanie; and 5 great-grandchildren.  He dearly loved his grandchildren.

June (Walling) Cahill, age 89, of Middletown, New Jersey passed peacefully into the next life on November 27, 2017 at Riverview Medical Center after a Thanksgiving weekend of family visits, good-byes, and expressions of love. 

June was born on June 12, 1928 in West Keansburg, NJ to Mabel and Gordon Walling. She graduated from Keyport High School in 1945 and married William J. Cahill on July 13, 1952. Together they raised 5 children, living most of their married life in Holmdel. At the age of 38, and while still a full-time homemaker, June went back to school to earn her B.A. in Education from Kean University.

Marcus Joseph Vasil was born on September 15, 2017 and passed away on November 25, 2017.  Marcus was born to, celebrated by, loved eternally by his first loves, his mommy Rachel Marcus Vasil and his daddy David Vasil; his bestest brother Jakob Lewis (age 7) and bestest sister Mason Elaine (15 months); his grandparents Donald L. Marcus, Ann (Mason) Marcus, Betty (Goodman) Vasil and Rich Vasil; his aunts Shannon (Marcus) Marins, Fayann (Marcus) Eigenrach, Casey (Marcus) Patel, Bailey Rose Marcus, Jamie (Vasil) Jovanis, Allie Hornig; his great-grandparents Joseph and Eleanor Goodman; his uncles Mattew Vasil, Douglas Marcus, Herbie Eigenrauch, Hital Patel, Keven Bronseau and Michael Jovanis; his cousins and friends (whom he shared Holloween with) Quincy, Ella, Colin, Scout, Alex, Kyra, Tyler, as well as the love of numerous and extraordinary extended family.

Philip L. Jacobs, 96, Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, died November 16, 2017, in his home, with Sara Yorg, his granddaughter, and caregivers by his side.  

Philip was born in New York.  He had two children, Wendy and Stuart.  Philip also had three grandchildren, Sara, Ryan and Holly, as well as two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Ashley Hall.

He had a host of family in the southern states, but one very special to his heart, James Jacobs, whom he loved dearly.

In the last 4 years of his life he was cared for by his granddaughter Sara, her family, and some very wonderful caregivers, who filled his heart with love.

Jacqueline Ann Seuffert passed away peacefully Monday evening, November 20, 2017 at home in Shrewsbury, NJ surrounded by her family. Born in Saratoga Springs, NY, she was the daughter of Thomas B. Judge and Florence Ann Lynaugh and was the eldest of three children. She and her sister Constance A. Judge of Tinton Falls were proud of their Irish Heritage and treasured their close relationship as they were “Irish Twins”. Jacqueline was predeceased by her younger brother Thomas B. Judge Jr. of Garwood, NJ. 

Jacqueline (Jackie) was blessed with a long and wonderful life. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Syracuse University where she was a member of the Theta Phi Alpha Sorority and graduated cum laude. While at Syracuse University, Jacqueline met the love of her life, Joseph Allan Seuffert (Joe), a WWII veteran and graduate of the University of Notre Dame.

The final chapter of a wonderful love story ended Thursday November 9, 2017 with the passing of David D. Dillon.  This, six days after the love of his life, best friend, soulmate and wife of 64 years, Phyllis Dillon, passed on November 3, 2017.

As an 18 year old, Dave was serving in the Air Force and stationed at March Air Force Base in California when  met his future bride, then 15 year old Phyllis Ann Havens of Glendale, California. Their courtship blossomed while Dave completed his service requirement despite the distance created by several overseas postings. Upon his return to the U.S., they were married on June 20th, 1953, and, following his discharge from the service Dave and Phyllis returned to his native Red Bank to begin their life together and start a family.  Residing in the Little Silver/Red Bank area for 68 years, the couple moved Leisure Village West in Manchester in 2001.

Mary Ribley, 96,  of West  Orange, NJ, formerly of Montclair, passed away on Nov .19, 2017, at Brighton Gardens of West Orange. Mary was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a long time Shrewsbury resident prior to moving to Montclair in 2013. Mary was a communicant of St Leo The Great  Roman Catholic Church  in Lincroft for 15 yrs and prior to that was a 40 year communicant of  St Dorothea’s  Roman Catholic Church in Eatontown where she served on the Rosary Alter Society.

Lillian Bag Sustick, 94, of Tinton Falls, died peacefully at home on November 17, 2017 with her children by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 6, 1923. She spent most of her years by the Jersey Shore raising a family and continuing her education. She was always available with comfort and advice, a generous and kind person. She married her beloved husband Robert in 1944 in Colorado Springs, CO at the Air Force base where he was stationed. They married just before he went off to war.  Happily Robert returned from the war on Thanksgiving Day in 1945. They had their future together.

Jacqueline “Jackie” Splain of Belford, NJ died peacefully at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the age of 70.  

Jackie is survived by her loving husband, Ltc. Billie N. Thomas, US Army Retired; her sister, Margaret Splain of Belford, NJ; her step-children, Bonnie Thomas of Fair Haven, NJ and Patrick Thomas of Rumson, NJ; her grandchildren, James Thomas of Fair Haven, NJ and Jack and Nicolas Thomas of Rumson, NJ; her two four-legged children Tara and Brown; and many friends she cherished deeply.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Splain, Jr. of Highlands.

Edwin Arnold (Arnie) Forrest, Jr., 85 years old, of Shrewsbury, NJ passed away peacefully in Long Branch on November 15, 2017, surrounded by family. 

Arnie was a faithful man, placing God, wife and family above all. He was born in Norristown, PA to Judge E.A. (Barney) and Elizabeth (Wood) Forrest. He graduated from The Haverford School in suburban Philadelphia in 1951, where he was Class President and Captain of the Football and Baseball teams. Arnie was elected to The Haverford School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003.  He graduated from Lafayette College in 1955 where he was Class President, Delta Upsilon Fraternity President, Varsity Track Team Captain and elected to “Who’s Who” in American Colleges and Universities.
