Obituaries

Nicolina-Lena Mosca, Age 96 of Middletown, passed away on September 1^st at home.  Nicolina-Lena was born in Bayonne, NJ to Pasquale and Angelina Tedsco.  She was a member of the Red Hat Association and an active member of Deborah Hospital. 

Mrs. Charlotte Schlosser nee Ebel passed away peacefully on June 12th in Fair Haven, NJ, surrounded by family and friends.  She was 82.  Charlotte is survived by her loving husband Wolfgang, daughter Dorothea, son-in-law Tom and grandchildren, Anika & Thaddeus, and brother Hans-Peter.  Charlotte is preceded in death by her son Michael.

Mary Louise Lyon Strong (Mary Lou), a 58-year resident of Monmouth County and long-time historic preservation activist and community volunteer, died on August 29th at age 86. Mary Lou was born on November 20, 1930 in Newton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Dorothy Miller Lyon and Stanley H. Lyon. Mary Lou graduated from Wellesley College as an Art History major in 1952. She and her husband, George Hotham Strong, moved to Little Silver, and then Locust, New Jersey, in 1956, where they raised their three children. Together, they reconstructed an 18th Century house and filled it with antiques. They were married for 63 years before his death in 2014. For the past three years, Mary Lou has lived at Newbridge-on-the-Charles in Dedham, Massachusetts. A funeral service for Mary Lou will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9th at All Saints’ Memorial Church, 202 Navesink Ave, Navesink.

William E. “Bill” Dixon, Sr, 76, of Sea Bright, NJ, went to glory peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ.  “Grampy”, “Wilby Macondeaux”, and “Chuckles” as he was known by his grandchildren, family and friends fought courageously for more than four years against an incurable illness. 

Edith I. Mangarelli (nee Geroni), a lifelong resident of Red Bank, NJ, passed away Thursday at the age of 98. She was married to her late husband, Harold Mangarelli, for 53 years. Born on August 7, 1919 in Red Bank, she went to Red Bank High school and worked at Eisners factory during World War II. She was a member of the USO and a devout Catholic. She helped run Crown Gifts, a well known Catholic Gift store owned by she and her husband. Edith loved her family, watching soap operas, the New York Yankees and Tony Bennett. 

Donato Colella (Danny) died peacefully on August 24, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.  He was 79 years old. 

Danny was born in Mola di Bari, Italy, the son of Giovanni and Anna Colella.  In 1970 he moved to Brooklyn, New York where he met his wife, Maria. They were happily married for 46 years.

On August 22, 2017 Vincent James Fuschetti, “Vinnie”, age 86, of Rumson passed away after a long but valiant battle with chronic illness.  

He was a graduate of Seton Hall Prep where he was a highly recruited swimmer.  He went on to attend the University of Miami where he earned his business degree; he was a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon and was able to foster a love for sailing fishing and scuba diving.

Robert T. Kern, Sr., 89, “Bob” passed away on Saturday, August 19^th in his home in Little Silver.  Born in Elmhurst, NY, he lived in Maspeth for 23 years and has lived in Little Silver for the past 24 years. 

Bob attended high school at La Salle Academy in New York City and also attended Manhattan College and St. John’s University.  He served his country in the US Army immediately after World War II.  He was a sports enthusiast and cheered for the Yankees, Mets and Jets.   Bob coached his children’s CYO baseball and basketball teams at St. Adalbert’s Parish before moving to New Jersey.  He served as a Eucharist Minister for 20 years at the Church of the Nativity in Fair Haven, NJ, was a member of the Nifty Fifties, and was a 4^th Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.  Bob was a Monmouth County Hiker for 13 years with his wife and enjoyed going to meetings with the Briody Bunch.

John R. Madden died on August 20, 2017 at his home in Shrewsbury, NJ.  After living for 72 years, John has left us with the legacy of his kind heartedness, colorful sense of humor, and a plethora of wonderful memories that all who knew him will hold dear forever. He always knew how to make everyone smile and lighten the mood.

John touched the lives of many people during his almost 50 year career as a lawyer in Red Bank & Freehold. His co-workers described him as the glue of the organization and the most trusted lawyer you could find.

Alexander Lathrop Ellwood passed over into eternal life on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 after a lengthy illness. He was 49. Alex was a graduate of Rumson Country Day School, St. Georges School in Rhode Island, Duke University and received his MBA from Vanderbilt University.

He had many extra curricular interests working for a Trade organization in Trenton and two years in Washington DC for the Union County Congressional Representative. He delighted his children when he became a student at the Institute of Culinary Education in New York. Prior to his illness Alex wanted very much to become an Episcopal Priest and he was studying until recently as a student at General Seminary in New York City.
