William S. "Bill" Henderson, 67 of Omaha, Nebraska, formerly of Middletown, passed away on Monday, February 29, 2016. William was a graduate of Middletown Township High School and the University of Tennessee Knoxville. He had a 40 year railroad career, working for the Central Railroad of New Jersey, the Norfolk Western, the Kansas City Southern/Louisiana Arkansas, the Missouri Pacific and the Union Pacific. William served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Transportation Corps in Ft. Eustis, VA and Saigon, RVN.

Alice V. Flanagan (nee Feighan), 90, of Kearny and Fair Haven, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2016. Alice, the daughter of Michael and Catherine Feighan, who emigrated from Ireland, was born and raised in Kearny and was a resident of Fair Haven for 45 years. Her family included her brother Peter Feighan, who was killed in action in World War II, and two sisters Catherine Franz (deceased) and Anita Miller of Long Island, NY.

Alice attended St. Stephens primary school in Kearny and graduated from Kearny High School in 1943. She worked 25 years for the Social Security Administration in Neptune before retiring in 2002.

Alice was married to her beloved husband and life-long friend, Arthur J. Flanagan, Sr. in St. Stephen's Church in 1948.

William E. Ether, Jr., 72 of Oakhurst, passed away on February 29, 2016. William was a 1961 graduate of RFH High School. He worked at the Atrium at Navesink Harbor in Red Bank. William was an avid reader and enjoyed sailing and kite flying.

William is predeceased by his wife Anna Marie, his long-time companion Angie Giambra and his sister Dorothy McAndrew. He is survived by his sisters Louise Whitfield of Rumson and Betty Obermann of Newport, VT; his nephews and nieces Ron, Jim & Sarah Whitfield, Kate Fessler and Mike Karbo; two great nieces and one great nephew; and two great-great nieces and nephews.

William F. Philburn, Jr. was born in Irvington, NJ, in 1923 to William F. Philburn, Sr. and Louise. He lived in Belmar, NJ, graduated from St. Rose High School, was a proud veteran of the US Navy and a Seton Hall graduate Class of 1948. William was an avid alumni supporter and devoted Pirates Men's basketball fan. He was an active member of St. James Catholic Church, Red Bank, NJ and sang in the Church choir, was an usher and Eucharistic Minister. William was a member of the Diocese of Trenton church choir and volunteered for numerous church activities. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Volunteer at several local organizations-ARC, Meals in Wheels, The Barn and annual Knights of Columbus corned beef & cabbage dinners. William was a Boy Scout troop leader and volunteered at Forestburg Scout Reservation, NY. He was a generous donator to charities such as Mercy Home for Boys and Girls, Boys Town, and the St. Labre Indian School, Montana.

William worked at Sancor, US Steel, Esso, Hess Oil, Metropolitan Life, and the Monmouth County Park System. His biggest joys were his family, friends and singing and dancing with the love of his life, Marion, who predeceased him in 2015.

Gerry Marengo, 59, of Tinton Falls died on Tuesday, March 1, 2016. He was born in Lares, Puerto Rico and moved to New York City as a child. He obtained a Bachelors degree from the University of Staten Island and a Masters of Computer Science from Stevens Tech. His career began at Bell Labs in Piscataway, NJ and then he went on to work at AT&T, Lucent, Alcatel-Lucent and most recently Nokia. Gerry was very active in his church where he was Treasurer for the last three years.

He is predeceased by his mother, Iluminada Marengo. Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lynn Marengo; sons Kevin Marengo of Harrogate, England and Robert Marengo of Washington, DC.; father, Geraldo Marengo; brother Jose Marengo and wife Tina; sisters Helene Marengo and Lucy Rivera and husband Freddie. He will be dearly missed by his niece and seven nephews, all his in-laws and extended family and friends.

After a 13 year struggle with Alzheimer's disease, Marie A. O'Connell 86 years old passed away peacefully at home on February 25, 2016 surrounded by her loving husband of 62 years and family.

She was predeceased by her parents William and Rhoda Allen and brother William Allen and survived by her devoted husband Daniel D. O'Connell, her six children, their spouses, and eight grandchildren. Marie's children and spouses including Diane (Dee) West and Rich West of Tinton Falls, NJ; Kevin and Katie O'Connell of Yardley, PA; Carol O'Connell and Ran French of Eatontown, NJ; Tom and Christine O'Connell of East Greenbush, NY; Katie and Mark Schultz of Rumson, NJ; and Peter O'Connell of Rumson, NJ. Marie's grandchildren include Bill and Jeff West of Philadelphia, PA; Kaelyn O'Connell of Boston MA; Caroline Schultz of Rumson, NJ; Liam and Erin O'Connell of Yardley PA; and Mackenzie and Kieran O'Connell of West Long Branch, NJ.

A long time resident of Red Bank, Ernestina (Wawi) died in her sleep on February 25th. . She was born in Santa Clara, Cuba 1919, the youngest child of Armando and Alicia Radelat. She was loved and protected by her three older brothers Armando, Adolfo, and Felipe.

Ernestina came to the United States in 1961 with her two boys to find freedom and liberty and to give them a chance to reach their full potential. She was a kindergarten teacher, an artist, a dietitian but most of all a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed organizing her monthly luncheons with her close group of ladies and helping anyone who needed advice or someone to listen. It was important to her to keep her culture alive by serving her wonderful Cuban cuisine during her favorite holiday Christmas Eve (Nochebuena).

Elvira V. DeFrancis, 86 of Middletown, passed away on February 24, 2016. Elvira was born to Rocco and Gertrude Sicuranza in Brooklyn, NY. She was a communicant of St. James RC Church.

Elvira was predeceased by her husband Michael in 2003. She is survived by her sons Michael, Anthony, Richard and Robert.

Joan Pillsbury DeVoe passed away peacefully on February 21, 2016. Daughter of the late John M. and Mary Loux Pillsbury, Joan was raised in Atlantic Highlands and Middletown, NJ. She attended The Beard School in Morristown, NJ and graduated from Wheaton College, Norton, MA.

Joan was an active volunteer in her community. Her service included The Junior League; Rumson Community Appeal; Rumson Historical Society; and St. George's Canterbury Fair, Altar Guild and Vestry.

Anna E. Ciampoli, 94, of Red Bank, died Saturday February 20, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Red Bank and was a lifelong Red Bank resident. Anna attended Red Bank High School and worked as a seamstress at Eisner’s in Red Bank during the war effort She was a member of Independent Engine Company Ladies Auxiliary and the River Street School PTA.

She was a devoted wife and mother who found great pleasure in putting out the welcome mat, having a place at the table for everyone. Her home was always open to family and friends. She will be tremendously missed by all who knew and loved her.

Anna was predeceased by her husband of 69 years, Gerald M. Ciampoli, who died in 2010. She is survived by a son, Michael Ciampoli and his wife Diane of Ocean Twp, five daughters ; Rose Marie Demos and her husband Jeffrey of Middletown, Geraldine of Red Bank, Dolores of Shark River Hills, Michele of Red Bank, and Elizabeth of Eatontown, one sister, Edith Mangarelli of Wall Twp., and two grandchildren, Brianna and Jeffrey John and his wife Christy.
