Obituaries

Robin Austin Dunn, 69, of Fair Haven, passed away on Wednesday, February 10th at home from complications arising from C.O.P.D. (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Robin spent her early years in the Somerville area before transferring to Rumson-Fair Haven High School her junior year. She became a member of the Color Guard, the Daisy Chain and was a finalist for Homecoming Queen in 1963.

After graduating Rumson-Fair Haven High School in 1964, Robin worked for Princeton University and as a travel agent in NYC before settling into her long career in health care. As a long-time patient advocate, she worked at Red Bank Medical Associates, Red Bank and then at Professional Orthopedic Associates, Tinton Falls until retiring in 2010. Robin ran the soccer program for many years in Fair Haven in the '80s and coached girls' softball as well.

Ann C. Meyer, 77, of Rumson passed away on February 16, 2016. She received her degree in Fine Arts from Monmouth University and continued her appreciation of art throughout her life. Ann began her career as publisher of Homes Magazine, then at Chase Manhattan as a mortgage broker for 13 years. She then moved to Arlington Capital for another 8 years, retiring in 2007. Ann was involved with the Red Bank Borough Education Foundation and helped work on the first gala to raise money for STEM at the primary school. Ann's deep love for animals was evident by her faithful 42-year support of the Monmouth County SPCA.

Ann is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, George J. Meyer; her daughter, Georgina Sullivan and her husband Casey and their daughters Hallie and Cleary; her son Jonathan Meyer and his wife Judy; and her sister Georgina Bak and her husband William; and her beloved dog J'adore.

Henry R. Orndorff, age 92, a resident of Fair Haven since 1961, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 13, 2016, at The Chelsea, Tinton Falls. Born in Ridge Farm, Illinois to the late Blanche Bunting and Frank Orndorff, he lived in Boston and grew up in South Amboy. He graduated valedictorian from Hoffman High School and received a BS from Newark State College of Engineering night school after serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He attended the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and participated in the convoys to Murmansk, Russia. In 1943 his Liberty ship was torpedoed off the coast of South Africa and he spent 6 days adrift in a lifeboat before being rescued near Durban. He spent 40+ years as a chemical engineer at NL Industries in Sayreville. An avid golfer, he played most of the Monmouth County courses and was 52 year member of Tower Hill church.

Mr. Norman David Jacobs, aged 88, passed away on February 10, 2016 and joins his beloved wife Pat who passed away on May 11, 2011 and his only child, Craig who passed away April 17, 2015.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he served four and a half years as an engineering officer in the Royal Navy after which he entered the merchant marine serving as an engineering officer with Cunard Steamship Company. In 1952 he became engaged to Patricia Gallagher who was to be the love of his life for sixty years and to whom he was happily married for fifty-six of those years. He immigrated to Canada to accept his first job ashore in 1954 with Davis Rowan, Marine Engineers. Following two years in Quebec, he accepted an offer from Babcock & Wilcox in Barberton, Ohio who offered to sponsor them. They immigrated to the US and proudly became US citizens in 1962. In 1967 he joined the Foster Wheeler Corporation as Chief Staff Engineer in their construction division.

In 1975 he joined the Northrop Corporation to take over as president of a troubled subsidiary company in Chicago, Illinois. By 1977 he had successfully turned the company around. He returned to Foster Wheeler in 1977, retiring in 1990 as chairman and CEO of Foster Wheeler Constructors Corporation.

VIVIAN CHIMENTO, 94 of LONG BRANCH passed away at her home after a long illness. 

Born outside of Naples, Italy, Vivian came to Ellis Island in 1922. She became a resident in Newark where she took over the family grocery store in1930. After her marriage to her husband, John, they relocated to the area and owned and operated the Shore Hills Motel, the Sea Bright Bathing Pavilion, currently known as Chapel Beach Club and the Sands Beach Club until her retirement in 1987. Vivian was a communicant of Church of the Precious Blood, Monmouth Beach and a 45 year volunteer for the Red Bank Chapter of Deborah Hospital. She was well known for her skill and tireless effort at fund raising.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John on September 28, 1987.       She is survived by two sons, John A. and wife, Gail of Little Silver and Anthony and partner, Bill Haney and their children, Erin and Ryan Haney of Miami, FL; two daughters, Sharon and husband, Jay Archbold of Freehold and Patricia and husband, Richard Arminio of Little Silver; one brother, Salvatore Lombardi of Florham Park and two sisters, Christine Santorelli of Monmouth Beach and Della Bruno of Brick; six grandchildren, John and Michael Chimento, Carl Quagilia, Sarah Archbold, Ryan and Nikki Arminio.

JAMES WILLIAM PRUNTY, 63 of MIDDLETOWN passed away at Riverview Medical Center on Tuesday, March 31st. 

Born in Brooklyn, NY to Peter and Margaret Prunty, James has made his residence in Middletown for the past twenty-five years.       He was a government bond broker for Liberty Brokerage in New York City from 1979-1995, retiring in 2004.       He was a communicant of St. Mary’s RC Church, New Monmouth and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Vince Lombardi Chapter, Middletown.

Charles Edward Senion, 87 years old, a lifetime Red Bank resident, died Friday morning March 27, 2009 at Community Medical Center, Toms River after a brief illness.  

He grew up in Red Bank where his father had an auto repair business on Union Street.  After his father passed away when he was a teenager, he went to work to help support his mother and younger sister.  He graduated from Red Bank High School in 1941. He enlisted in the Army in WWII and rose to the rank of crew chief on a B-29 bomber in the 20th Air Force 468th “Billy Mitchell Group”.  He flew from Kharagpur India and Pungshaw China to Japan, Manchuria and Taiwan on bombing missions. While on leave from the Army he married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Audrey Carhart,  and were married for over 60 years. After the war he went to work for Bendix Aviation Corporation in Eatontown from which he retired. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank, a founder of the Red Bank Junior Rifle Club, the leader of Boy Scout Troop #17 in Red Bank and a volunteer with Holiday Express.

EMMA ADELE BOGART, 93, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2009 at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, surrounded by her loving family.  

The Lord called Emma home and she has passed to her reward.  She lived her life filled with happiness, kindness, and love for all who knew her.  Her family will miss her comforting and loving ways at their time of need, but are sure that God has greeted her into his Heaven with open arms, to spend the rest of time in her new home. She was born on May 15, 1915 to Arthur and Willimeana Lomax in Brooklyn, NY.  She was brought to New Jersey at an early age when her family moved to Monmouth County.  She spent the following years in Red Bank area, but made short visits with her husband, Joseph, to their farm in Pennsylvania.  She and Joseph were married for 68 years.  They lived at their home in Florida from New Year’s Day until May 30th from 1976 to 1992.  She had many friends in Florida and spent her time there enjoying the warm weather and her favorite activities of swimming, water-skiing, boating, and shopping in local cities.  Emma was a member of the River Plaza Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary in the 50’s and 60’s.  She loved to bowl.  She was a member of the WIBC Ladies Championship Team in 1975 and 1976, and received the WIBC Award for her big 4 strike and she was so thrilled. 

Maureen C. Doherty, 49, of Belmar, died at her home on March 21.

Maureen is predeceased by her parents Peter J. Doherty and Joan F. Gimbut Doherty. She is survived by her lifelong companion, Thomas Soemer; her brothers, Kevin Doherty, of Eatontown, and Robert Doherty, of CA; and her sister, Susan Doherty-King, of Australia.
