Obituaries

Elinor R. D’Aloia, known to all as “Babs”, age 93, of Shrewsbury, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 27, 2020. A lifelong resident of Shrewsbury, Babs was a graduate of Red Bank High School and Centenary College, Hackettstown, NJ.

At the conclusion of World War II, Babs married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Patrick J. D’Aloia. Babs and Pat were married in 1949 and celebrated 61 years of marriage, until Pat’s passing in April 2010. Babs devoted her life to her family and her beloved Shrewsbury, for which she was the “go to” Historian. Having lived a “life of service”, Babsie enjoyed her years at the Little Silver Women’s Club, the Shrewsbury Hose Company Women’s Auxiliary, the Shrewsbury Homesteaders, and was a member of Sands Beach Club for over 60 years. To those who knew her, Babs loved life and was never one to miss a party.

Salvatore Joseph (Sal) Mirrione, 94, of Red Bank, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Sal was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Pasquale and Marianne Mirrione. He was one of 10 siblings, all of whom predeceased him. Married to his wife, Bernadette (Billie), for 66 years, together they raised their 6 children in Brooklyn and Hollis, NY.

A proud veteran of World War II, Sal fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart recipient. Following his service to his country, he had a career as a linotype operator and proofreader for Paramount and Sorg printing companies in Manhattan, NY. Upon retirement, Sal and Billie moved to Toms River, NJ and enjoyed many happy years there. For the last several years, Sal resided with his daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Carlos.

Maxwell Thomas Holden, 3, was a beautiful soul whose smile always lit up the room. He passed away on March 24th after a two year battle with neuroblastoma.

Max was born to Carrie and Tahj Holden on October 22, 2016 in Red Bank, NJ. He adored his big brother Cole as well as a handful of Ellies and Jacks.

Maxwell always woke up happy and approached each day with a smile. He enjoyed the beach, playing outside and being with his family and friends. He loved dancing, listening to music and going to school. The world will never be the same without him.

Antonio P. Ferraro, age 88, of Eatontown, NJ peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2020. Antonio was born in Long Branch, NJ to Maria and Gaetano Ferraro. He worked for Postal Annex in Shrewsbury upon his retirement in 1991. Antonio was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed, and always in our hearts.

Gary P. Figaro, 66, of Eatontown, passed away on March 11, 2020. Gary was born to Gregory P. Figaro and Josephine D. (Figaro) Menna, both of whom have predeceased him. Gary is survived by his brother Greg. Gary was a life-long resident of the Red Bank/Eatontown area. He was a parishioner of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Red Bank.

Monique Squeo-Bolsius, a vibrant and beautiful 53-year old woman, of Rumson, NJ, passed away on March 18, 2020 after a two year battle with cancer.

Monique was born to Philip and Lillian Squeo in Jersey City, NJ in 1966. She grew up in Teaneck and Alpine, NJ where she attended Tenafly High School. She continued her education at George Washington University receiving a Bachelors of Arts and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Education. Monique started her career as a teacher and branched out as an entrepreneur and business owner, founding and operating King’s Wood Art in 2007, which sold, appraised, and consulted on fine art.

Monique is survived by her devoted husband, Todd, her beloved children, Philip 16, and Isabella 13, and her sisters, Robyn, Tina and Nanci.

Darryl H. Popper, 55, of Leonardo, passed away at his home on March 8, 2020. Darryl was born in Fayetteville, NC, to Stephen and Carole (Worden) Popper. He was a graduate of Red Bank Regional High School. After High School, Darryl proudly served in the US Army before returning to the Shore area. He was an avid golfer and fisherman.  

Darryl is predeceased by his twin brother Christopher Worden Popper. He is survived by his parents; his children Andrew, Harry; Jack and Stephanie MV Popper; his step-son Jake Hubbard; his brother Charles Popper; his sister Renee Koursaris, her husband Zack and their children Stefanos and Eleni; his sister-in-law Suzanne Popper and his two nephews Carson Worden Popper and Ryan Popper.

Mary E. Rockafellow of Middletown, NJ passed away Saturday, March 7, with her family by her side. A resident of Middletown, Mary was predeceased by her mother, Elizabeth Welsh in 1988, and father, Frank C. Smith in 2015. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, William F. Rockafellow, Sr.; Two daughters and sons-in-law: Christina and Christopher Wilczynski, Laura and Elisha Stiles, Sr. and son and daughter-in-law, William F. Jr. and Karen Rockafellow; 5 grandchildren: Kara, Camryn, Ian, Emma and Eli.

Mary loved yearly trips to Chincoteague, Virginia and Black Lake, NY. She was a lover of all things purple, tie-die and men in kilts.

William Hamlin Reaves, 98, passed away on Wednesday, March 4^th at his home in Rumson, NJ with his family and loved ones by his side. William (Bill) was born February 27, 1922 in Mobile, Alabama and is predeceased by his parents Mattie H. and George A. Reaves, his wife Susanne L. Reaves and his son, William. He is survived by his 3 children and their spouses: Susanne and Karl Rudiger, Mary Adams, and John and Kelly Reaves, his grandchildren, Jay and Will Rhame, Christopher and Michael Adams and Jamie Reaves, and his two great grandchildren, Chip and Matt Rhame. He is also survived by nieces and nephews including Daniel and James Ravenel, Mary Black, Lavinia French, James and John Lyles, Susan Randall, Pelham Lyles and Josie Lyles, and Lavinia Dowling, Robert Seibels and Grenville Seibels.  

Bill graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, SC in 1943 and served in WWII as a First Lieutenant in the US Marine Corp.

Harold Boyle of Tinton Falls, NJ passed away Thursday with family by his side. Born on Staten Island, Harold was predeceased by his wife Carmella in 2011. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law: Linda & Richard Molinelli, Karen & Bill Geltzeiler, and Cathy & Kenny Martin, 11 grandchildren: Jessica Roberto & husband Michael, Bill Geltzeiler, Jr. & wife Christine, Stephen Molinelli, Lauren Molinelli, Ryan Martin, Katelyn Martin,Timothy Geltzeiler, Kelly Martin, Kristen Molinelli, Kyle Geltzeiler, and Corey Martin, and three great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Brady, & Carmella.   Harold was predeceased by two sisters, Marion Bonica and Doris Knudsen, both of Staten Island. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Boyle of Mannahawkin, NJ and a sister, Janet Crowley of Maryland. 

A World War II veteran, Harold proudly served his country for three years in the US Armed Forces. In 1954, he married the love of his life, Carmella (Ricciardi) with whom he raised three children.
