Obituaries

Francis (Fran) Gorey, beloved father, grandfather and great–grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2020, two months short of his 98^th birthday. He was at home in Shrewsbury, NJ under the loving care of his son and daughter-in-law. Born on June 18, 1922 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he grew up in Edwardsville PA. He also lived in CT and CA before settling in Montville, NJ, where he raised three children with his wife of 64 years, Renee.

Fran had a lifelong love of music, tap dancing as a young boy and taking up the trumpet at an early age. He went on to play trumpet professionally with the Johnny Menko Orchestra, performing live on stage and on a weekly radio show for several years. He had the opportunity to join a big band at the height of that era but by then had met and married the love of his life, Renee Boulay, and he wasn’t willing to leave her behind to perform on the road. He continued to play the trumpet throughout his life, including in the choir at St. Pius X Church in Montville and with the Presbyaires choral group that entertained at nursing homes. He especially enjoyed playing “Happy Birthday” for family and friends on their special days, including his jazzed-up trumpet version.

Patricia R. MacLaughlin, age 86, of Neptune, NJ peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 16th, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, NJ. Born in Orange, she lived in Tinton Falls for more than 50 years. She attended St. Elizabeth’s Academy, Convent Station and graduated from the School of Education at Fordham University, NY.  She went on to teach for 35 years and retired from St. Mary's Elementary School in Deal. Pat had a strong religious faith and was a parishioner of St. James Roman Catholic Church, Red Bank.  

Roberta Marie Lisi went to be with the Lord  on April 15, 2020. She was born February of 1953 to Mary Lattig Scholl and Edmund R. Scholl in Norfolk Virginia. She attended Perth Amboy High School. She furthered her education and was employed as a phlebotomist for many years at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank. She was also a retired Restaurant Manager for Charlie Brown's.

Norma Adams Bibby, aged 87 years, died April 14, 2020. She was residing at Jersey Shore Center in Eatontown, NJ.

Norma was born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, daughter of the late Edgar and Dorothy Adams, sister to the late Nancy Adams Riley and brother- in- law Robert “Bob” Riley. She graduated from Battin High School in Elizabeth, NJ in 1950. She then went to work as a secretary at Elizabeth Iron Works and met her beloved husband William (Bill) Bibby. They were married for sixty years before Bill passed away in 2011.

Norma is survived by daughter, Christine Bibby Stout, son-in-law William Paul Stout, and grandchildren, Anthony and Julia Constantine, and Sarah Stout.

Norma and Bill lived in Fanwood, NJ for 33 years before moving to Readington, NJ where they lived for 25 years.

Ethel May (Pat) Patton Robinson passed away peacefully at Bayshore Health Care Center on April 14^th.

She was born on May 4^th, 1920 in Darby, PA to Eliza Still Patton and Thomas Flood Patton.

Pat graduated from Darby High School in 1938 and from Penn State in 1942 with a BS degree in health and physical education. While at Penn State, she played for the US National Women’s Traveling Field Hockey Team. She was also a proud member of Chi Omega and, later in life of Pan Hellenic.

During WWII, Pat served as a WAVE at the naval base in Oakland, CA, where she was the director of the athletic program. While there she played on the WAVES women’s field hockey team.

Pat married William H. Robinson, Jr. (Robby) in 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio. They moved to the Rumson/Fair Haven area in 1953 where they raised their family.

William B. “Bill” Havens, age 56 years, of Shrewsbury, NJ, died suddenly on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank, NJ.

Born in Plainfield, NJ, July 30, 1963, son of June Lindland Havens and the late Richard Havens, Bill was raised in Fair Haven, NJ and lived for many years in Little Silver, NJ, prior to moving to Shrewsbury in 2013.

The life of this gentle giant is not ended by this obituary, but rather it is the hope that all reading this get a glimpse into some of the reasons that made Bill so special and why he will surely live on in the hearts and in the actions of so many.

Bill was a 1982 graduate of Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, and went on to attend Elizabethtown College where he played baseball and soccer. An outstanding athlete from when he was a child, Bill was an accomplished pitcher.

On Saturday, March 21, 2020, Ms. Mildred Gwendolyn Moss-Chrystol departed this life peacefully at home after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

“Neet” to family, “Moss” to colleagues, and “Gwen” to her husband was born July 24, 1941, in York County, S.C., to the late Albert R. Moss and Vernie Wright Moss. After graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1960, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Shaw University (HBCU) in Raleigh, N.C., in 1965. Mildred furthered her education with a Masters in Urban Education from Paterson State College (now known as William Paterson University) in Wayne, N.J. She later earned a Masters in School Counseling from Jersey City State College (now known as New Jersey City University) in Jersey City, N.J.  She also received a Certificate in Family Counseling. She was a proud member of the Newark Teachers Union (NTU) and the American Counselors Association (ACA).

Michael Patrick Kenny, 69, passed away peacefully with his wife, Sharon, at his side, on March 13, 2020.       

Michael, a son of Peter and Helen Cahill Kenny, grew up in New Brunswick and Sayreville. He graduated from St. Joseph HS in Metuchen and went to the University of Oklahoma to play Division I basketball. A knee injury ended his athletic career; he returned home and graduated from Rutgers College with Phi Beta Kappa and summa cum laude honors in English. He completed an alternate route certification program while teaching at Middlesex County College. Michael spent his entire career as an English teacher at East Brunswick HS, retiring in 2007. He instilled strong writing and analytic skills in his students, many of whom returned after graduation to tell him how well he prepared them for college. He ran the largest Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival in New Jersey for high school students, bringing in some of the nation's most renowned poets. Michael loved teaching and going to plays, athletic events, recitals and even weddings of his students. He was an assistant varsity basketball coach at East Brunswick HS and later basketball and baseball coach at Joyce Kilmer School in Milltown.         

Roberta Pisani Ryan died on April 5, 2020, in Newton, MA where she had been living for the last few years to be near her daughters who are residents there.

Born in Brooklyn, NY on December 18, 1941, to Robert A. Pisani and Cornelia Mae Beringer Morris, she was the oldest of six siblings; Susan, Johnny, Jimmy, Jane and Richard. As a teenager, she moved to Lincroft, New Jersey and graduated from Middletown High School.  While working at Bell Labs, she met the love of her life, Jim Ryan, and they were married in 1966. They moved to Little Silver in 1970 where they happily raised their three children.

Emma D. Adcock (nee DeChicchio), loving mother, grandmother and aunt, passed away, Wednesday, April 2, 2020 at Brandywine Senior Living Reflections at Brick. She was predeceased by her loving husband George F. Adcock. 

Born to an Italian family of eight children, she was a lifelong resident of Red Bank and longest resident on South Street, Red Bank. She was a member of St Anthony’s Catholic Church for over 70 years.
