Mary Ribley, 96, of West Orange, NJ, formerly of Montclair, passed away on Nov .19, 2017, at Brighton Gardens of West Orange. Mary was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a long time Shrewsbury resident prior to moving to Montclair in 2013. Mary was a communicant of St Leo The Great Roman Catholic Church in Lincroft for 15 yrs and prior to that was a 40 year communicant of St Dorothea’s Roman Catholic Church in Eatontown where she served on the Rosary Alter Society.

Lillian Bag Sustick, 94, of Tinton Falls, died peacefully at home on November 17, 2017 with her children by her side. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on July 6, 1923. She spent most of her years by the Jersey Shore raising a family and continuing her education. She was always available with comfort and advice, a generous and kind person. She married her beloved husband Robert in 1944 in Colorado Springs, CO at the Air Force base where he was stationed. They married just before he went off to war. Happily Robert returned from the war on Thanksgiving Day in 1945. They had their future together.
Jacqueline “Jackie” Splain of Belford, NJ died peacefully at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, NJ on Monday, November 13, 2017 at the age of 70.
Jackie is survived by her loving husband, Ltc. Billie N. Thomas, US Army Retired; her sister, Margaret Splain of Belford, NJ; her step-children, Bonnie Thomas of Fair Haven, NJ and Patrick Thomas of Rumson, NJ; her grandchildren, James Thomas of Fair Haven, NJ and Jack and Nicolas Thomas of Rumson, NJ; her two four-legged children Tara and Brown; and many friends she cherished deeply. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, John Splain, Jr. of Highlands.
Edwin Arnold (Arnie) Forrest, Jr., 85 years old, of Shrewsbury, NJ passed away peacefully in Long Branch on November 15, 2017, surrounded by family.
Arnie was a faithful man, placing God, wife and family above all. He was born in Norristown, PA to Judge E.A. (Barney) and Elizabeth (Wood) Forrest. He graduated from The Haverford School in suburban Philadelphia in 1951, where he was Class President and Captain of the Football and Baseball teams. Arnie was elected to The Haverford School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2003. He graduated from Lafayette College in 1955 where he was Class President, Delta Upsilon Fraternity President, Varsity Track Team Captain and elected to “Who’s Who” in American Colleges and Universities.
Master Michael (Mike) J. Torpey, 97, of Lakewood NJ, formerly of Locust NJ, passed away on November 7th, 2017 after a brief illness. Mike was born on July 7th, 1920 in Bethlehem, PA to Stephen and Amelia Schwartz Torpey. He graduated from Lehigh University in 1941 where he was a star quarterback for the football team. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army where he became a decorated member of the Airborne Army Rangers in WWII serving in the South Pacific. He was awarded the Purple Heart in 1942 and 1944, the Bronze Star in 1942 and the Silver Star in 1944. After the war, Mike pursued a career in journalism where he was editor in chief for various magazines and newspapers. Inspired by his love for horses as a young boy, Mike founded Hidden Hollow Farms in Middletown, NJ where he ran an equestrian riding school. He was also the founder and president of Hidden Hollow Hounds Fox Hunting Club, leaders in the sport of fox hunting for decades. Upon his retirement, his daughter Mimi took over the farm and continued the family business.
Chloe Lambert Brokaw, 78, of Oceanport, passed away on November 7, 2017, at Arbor Terrace in Tinton Falls. She was an Administrative Assistant and had worked for L-3 Communications, Telos Corp, Ford Aerospace and Communications Corp, IBM Corp and IBM World Trade Corp.
She was a graduate of Syracuse University and of the Katharine Gibbs Business School, NYC. Born in Manhattan, she lived in Queens and Hastings-on-Hudson, before moving to Little Silver in 1968, where she lived for 27 years before moving to Oceanport.
Doris Frank died peacefully at home in Shrewsbury, New Jersey on November 6, 2017. She was born to the late Alice Pedell Hamrock and John Hamrock in Newark, New Jersey in 1925 and spent many wonderful years in Union and Elizabeth before moving to Monmouth County. Doris is predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry P Frank, her sisters Evelyn Shumski, Elsie Hills, Mildred Davis and brothers Kenneth and Edward Hamrock. Doris is survived by her daughter Nancy Gill and son-in-law Brian Gill of Red Bank, NJ; her son Kenneth Brennan and daughter-in-law Diane Brennan of Savannah, Georgia; her grandchildren, Katie and Taylor Gill of Red Bank, NJ, Michael Brennan and his wife Merikay of Evergreen Park, Illinois and her great-grandchildren Ryan and Cam Brennan who were absolutely the loves of her life.
Barbara O. Wingerter, born August 23rd, 1927, to the late Oscar & Anne Oschwald, passed away on November 3, 2017. She spent her childhood in Matawan, moving later to Eatontown, Red Bank, Fair Haven then back to Red Bank. A lifelong resident of Monmouth County, she was a summer resident of Lavallette, NJ since 1931. Her grandfather, Joseph Oschwald of Newark and Little Silver, built the first skyscraper in Newark and many of their breweries. He built the Carlton Theater in Red Bank, now known as the Count Basie Theater.
John J. Welsh, 77 of Red Bank, passed away on October 30, 2017. John was born in Jersey City to James and Elizabeth (Martin) Welsh. He was employed by Chambers Electric in Ocean Twp for 34 years before retiring in 2002. Prior to that John worked for Frank Leslie Electric in Fair Haven. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Fair Haven and a member of the Westside Hose Co of the Red Bank Fire Department for 54 years and served as Chief in 1990. John was a former communicant of St. Agnes RC Church in Atlantic Highlands and St. Anthony’s of Padua in Red Bank.
On October 23, 2017, Margaret A. Antenucci of Middletown passed away due to a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Margaret was an avid golfer, homemaker, and a style icon all of her own. She was an amazing person – kind, loving, and warm hearted. She will be missed very much by all who knew her and her family as well. They are happy to know that she is finally with her Adam, her husband who passed three years prior.
Dr. James A. O’Malley, 86, of Little Silver, NJ and formerly Vero Beach, FL, passed away peacefully on October 24th, at home with his family. He had courageously battled pulmonary fibrosis for over 20 years.
Jim was a wonderful example of courage, love, kindness, and generosity that will continue to be an inspiration to us all.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, he was predeceased by his parents, James and Gladys O’Malley and Stepmother, Eleanor Tachney O’Malley.
