Obituaries

Timothy G. Beaty, 64, of Colts Neck, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday March 15, at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center after a battle with heart disease. 

He was born in Long Branch, NJ, raised in Oceanport, and graduated from Shore Regional High School in 1972. In high school, he was known as an avid runner earning First Team All-Shore and First Team All-State in Track in 1972. 

Tim was the creator and owner of T. Beaty Trucking for over 40 years. He devoted himself to hardwork and great service, priding himself on his punctuality and friendly demeanor. Tim is remembered for his loving heart, witty sense of humor, honesty, and incredible passion.

Nancy Hagerman, 93, passed away peacefully at home on March 9, 2019, after a long illness.  She was born in Brooklyn, NY, and married the love of her life, William R. Hagerman, in 1943.  Over fifty-eight years of marriage, they lived in Red Bank, Shrewsbury, Rumson, Little Silver, and Middletown.

Nancy served on the Monmouth County SPCA Board of Trustees, was President of the SPCA Auxillary and the Shadow Lake Village Garden Club.   She planted and maintained spectacular gardens, created museum quality miniature rooms and doll houses, and continued to work on petit-point and needlepoint canvases until a few months before her death.  Throughout her adult life she was a voracious reader, an avid bridge player, theater lover, and a beachgoer.  In the past, she enjoyed golfing at Beacon Hill and playing tennis at the Sea Bright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club. 

Mildred Palmer Stout, 93 of Farmingdale, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 10^th at Atlantic Coast in Lakewood with end stage dementia.

Mildred was born in Newark New Jersey.  She grew up in Arlington New Jersey.  She graduated from Kearny High School then UNC Greensboro.  As a young adult, her family relocated to Locust, New Jersey.  She taught first grade in the Little Silver and Fair Haven school systems for thirty plus years.  Mildred became an active member of the United Methodist Church of Red Bank.  She sang in the choir at the United Methodist Church and also in the Shrewsbury Chorale.  She sang duets throughout the county.

She married her husband Robert W. Stout and they were married for more than fifty years.

Alice Patricia Hsiu-Yun Liu Szema, 85, died March 2, 2019 surrounded by family at Millennium Memory Care in Holmdel, NJ after complications from strokes.

Born Liu Hsiu-Yun, May 10, 1933 in Shanghai, China, Alice was the daughter of the late Liu Tzu-Liang and Liu Lei Pei-Chen.  Her childhood, enriched with trips to Chinese opera, parks, and bookstores with her father, watching her mother play mahjong, and having doting grandparents, was interrupted due to the atrocities of the Sino-Japanese and Chinese Civil Wars. Alice left China with her parents, younger brother and elder cousin after her father, a cargo ship owner, prepared their new home in Taiwan.  Originally scheduled to sail on the Taiping ship January 26, 1949 from Shanghai, the Liu family swapped tickets with another family who needed to delay their travel. Her family departed December 6, 1948 on the Zhong Shin Ren ship. Unfortunately, the Taiping collided with another ship, Chien Yuan and over 1500 passengers perished.

Virginia Mae Schroeder Zebe, age 96, of Red Bank, died peacefully Feb. 21 surrounded by family at Monmouth Medical Center. Born in Beaver Falls, PA, Feb. 4, 1923, she graduated from Beaver Falls High School and attended Geneva College, marrying James Wilmer Martin in 1946. While raising her growing family of four in the 1950s and 1960s she worked outside the home as a bookkeeper.  Her children, and later her grandchildren, benefitted from the cooking, knitting, and sewing skills she perfected at home. The family moved several times around the country because of job relocations, finally settling in New Jersey where boating, oysters, lobsters and the quiet peace of the ocean became a major part of Ginny’s life.

William (Bill) A. Naddeo - The world lost an all-around great guy when William (Bill) A. Naddeo of Colts Neck, NJ passed away on 3/5/19, at the much too young age of 57 following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.  His wife Jane was by his side. 

Bill was born in the Bronx and raised in Bergen County, NJ.  He attended River Dell High School where he played football and was on the wrestling team.  Bill graduated from William Paterson College with a degree in computer science and spent most of his career at Lever Brothers in NYC before starting a systems consulting business.  He retired in 2001.

LONG BRANCH - March 1, 2019, Gregory S. Weber – husband, father, son, brother, uncle, friend, surfer, rocker, warrior – passed away at home in Long Branch, NJ.

Greg was born in Newark, NJ. A graduate of RFH and the University of Colorado, Greg traveled the world, but was always happiest at the Jersey Shore. He and his wife raised their daughters in Rumson, where they lived for 22 years before moving to Long Branch. Greg was a talented guitar player, who enjoyed playing solo, with his friends and with his bands - “The Deadly Snakes” and “The Jettyrats.” He spent summers at the Sea Bright Beach Club, and surfed/paddled year-round, even after his cancer diagnosis.

Taylor Dennett Broderick, 28, of Rumson passed away peacefully of natural causes on February 25, 2019.  She is survived by her loving parents Jennifer and Shaun Broderick, brother Cullen (C.J.) Broderick, maternal grandmother Paula Jordan, and her lifetime boyfriend and love of her life, Kevin Sharkey and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.  She is predeceased by her maternal grandfather John Jordan and her paternal grandparents Theresa and Charles Broderick. 

Taylor was born in Rumson, NJ.  She attended Rumson–Fair Haven High School and graduated from Elon University in North Carolina.

Services will be held at St. George's‐By‐the‐River, 7 Lincoln Avenue, Rumson, NJ, 10 am on Saturday, March 2, 2019.   Burial is private at the family's request.  Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, is entrusted with the arrangements.

Frank Owens of Tinton Falls passed away Sunday, February 24, at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank after a brief illness.  He was 91.  Frank was born in New York and attended high school there.  He served in the United States Merchant Marines and the United States Army Air Force. He retired from the United States Army Reserves as a Command Sgt. Major, 5th BN, 5th FA.

After working many years with the Consolidated Edison Company, he progressed through the ranks until he was elected as a business agent for the Utility Workers Union of America Local 1-2.  Frank continued his career path with the Union retiring in 1985 as the AFLCIO - National Union’s Executive Vice President.  Upon his retirement, the Union said this about Frank:

“When Frank retired from union business, he decided immediately that he wouldn’t spend his days sitting in front of the television or hanging around the bingo halls. So he showed up at the doorstep of the U.S. Army Garrison Information Centrum at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey, saying something to the effect, ‘Here I am. I would like to be a volunteer. Use me for whatever you’d like.’  Eighteen months later Frank has his helping hand in just about everything, working closely with military personnel and civilians at Fort Monmouth.  His experience as a union leader and advocate for the underdog, coupled with his creativity and innovative ideas, has proven to be a tremendous asset to the army garrison information centrum - as he helps people resolve all sorts of problems.”  Frank explained that by using his experience and many years as a shop steward and union officer - when he fought for workers’ rights, settled labor and management disputes, challenged health benefits and insurance companies - he was able to help many military families resolve their problems.

Thomas Michael Saporito (93) of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, rejoined for all Eternity his beloved wife of 60 years Fran, on February 18, 2019 surrounded by his children peacefully in his home.  Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of the late Rose (Noto) and Joseph Saporito. Tom changed the lives of those whom he touched as a husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, brother, uncle, friend and neighbor.

As a veteran of "The Greatest Generation," Tom served our country during WWII in the Pacific, on the naval aircraft carrier USS Bennington. After managing the family business manufacturing ladies’ coats, he then joined the New York City Police Department (with his claim to fame of delivering 4 babies while on the job) until his retirement in 1979, after which time he worked in executive security for M&T Bank.
