Anne F. Walradt

Anne Frazier Walradt was born Dorothy Anne Frazier on December 31,1942, to Ivan Gray Frazier and Dorothy Belle Felix Frazier. She went by Anne to prevent confusion with her mother and was grateful the whole world celebrated her birthday each year. Anne passed away at home, surrounded by family on October 23, 2018.

Anne is survived by her husband John Pierce Walradt (the Captain) whom she picked from a Farmhouse Fraternity lineup in 1962; her four children: Daniel (the first mate), Michael (the kind one), James (the practical one), and Elizabeth (the mini-me); and her two grandchildren Olivia (7) and Owen (3), both James’s. Also in the clan are daughters-in-law Laura and Erin, and son-in-law Alexander Scherer.

Anne grew up in Pocatello ID, with her sister Margaret Frazier Birkemeier and brother William (Bill) Frazier. She was a lover of romance novels, fine china, and crème brûlée. She obtained a BA in English at the University of Idaho and an MA degree at Oregon State, but found her home in Holmdel, New Jersey, where she and John raised the flock. She was an important leader in the United Methodist Church of Red Bank, and a proponent of a liberal interpretation of the Bible’s teachings, aiding the congregation’s shift to greater inclusiveness.

An influential English teacher and grammarian par excellence, Anne earned the sobriquet, “The Grammar Goddess.” She taught effective writing and the power of humor for many years and was an active member of New Jersey Romance Writers, Romance Writers of America, Liberty States Fiction Writers, and International Women’s Writing Guild.

A celebration of Anne’s life will be held Saturday, November 3 at 10:30 at the United Methodist Church of Red Bank, 247 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ. A light repast will follow. Please wear bright colors and outrageous hats to represent Anne’s flair for living life in color.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Anne’s name may be made to the United Methodist Church of Red Bank to benefit the Backpack Crew and the restroom remodel project.

Anne will be greatly missed, but more important, fondly remembered. Live on in your glamorousness as Anne lived in hers.
