As a lifelong resident of New Jersey, Jane’s roots in the Garden State ran deep. She was born in 1929 in Matawan. She graduated in 1946 from Red Bank Catholic
High School. And in 1950 she earned a degree from Manhattanville College.
Jane held many titles throughout her life: secretary for the president of Rutgers, real estate agent in Monmouth County, Assistant Vice President of Marketing at First National Bank of Toms River, and office manager of a veterinary clinic in Ocean County.
But the roles she most proudly served were friend, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Jane married the love of her life, Charles
Pike, in 1952 at St. Joseph’s in Keyport. They held their reception at Red Bank’s Molly Pitcher Inn. Together they raised four children.
Jane had a great competitive spirit and many, varied talents. She enjoyed a good game of tennis in her younger years and later became an avid golfer, winning several
tournaments in her Shadow Lake community. She excelled at word and card games, especially duplicate bridge. Jane was the rare sort that could complete the New
York Times Sunday Crossword Puzzle in one sitting, unassisted, and in pen.
On the evening of June 30th, at the age of 87, Jane died of cancer peacefully in her home surrounded by family. She was predeceased by her parents Dr. Gerard and
Marie Devlin, her first husband Charles Pike, and second husband Duncan Black.
She leaves behind a brother, Pat Devlin of Sebastian, Florida; four children, Chuck Pike of Winchester, Massachusetts; Nancy Tooker of Houston, Texas; Liesje
Damerjian of Reading, Massachusetts; and Brian Pike of Brick, New Jersey; eight wonderful grandchildren, Adrien, Kendall, Julia, Will, David, Jessica, Aileen
and Chris; and two adorable great-grandchildren, Clark and Ruth.
Jane was a faithful Catholic. Her funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 7, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Saint James Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank, New Jersey.
