It’s with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Milena Bruno. She led quite an incredible life after being born in Zadar Croatia.
She spent time in Rome Italy as a translator for refugees across the continent as she was fluent in many European languages. She subsequently immigrated to the United States and began working as a seamstress and eventually a fashion designer before she met her husband Albert. They were married for 59 wonderful years and she gave up a very promising career in fashion design so she could stay with her children.
She eventually started her own fashion design company – Milena‘s Originals out of her home in Brooklyn, New York. Over the years she created countless wedding, prom, christening, communion, and evening dresses, including wedding dresses for her daughter-in-laws. She was an amazing cook as well with a legendary Bolognese.
But probably more than anything she adored her five granddaughters and spent countless hours with them along with her husband Al Bruno. It’s difficult to put into words all of the amazing qualities she had, none greater than being an amazing mother and grandmother while always caring for multiple family members. She touched many lives across the globe and will be sorely missed by her friends and family.
Milena is survived by her husband of 59 years Albert Bruno of Brooklyn New York; her children, Carmel Bruno of Hoboken, New Jersey, Albert Bruno Jr and his wife Jennifer of Bronxville, New York and Dr. Robert Bruno and his wife Jocelyn of Rumson New Jersey; her granddaughters Alexandra, Ava, Juliet, Catherine, and Olivia; along with many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Sime Benic and Maria Mara Benic ; along with numerous brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 22nd from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701.
