David Clark Stevens, Sr., 87, of Mooresville, NC passed away on April 10, 2025, peacefully with his family by his side.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, David was the only child of Margaret Clark and Dr. Charles Henry Stevens, Jr., PhD. He attended The Hill School (Pottstown, PA) and Highland Park (NJ) high school where he was a three-sport athlete excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. David graduated from Rutgers University in 1960 where he was a member of the Zeta Psi fraternity and Queens Guard Precision Rifle Drill Team, while also serving as a cadet in the Air Force ROTC Program. Following graduation, he married his college sweetheart, Sandra (nee Dunbar).
During his career, he held various sales and corporate management roles with American Can Co., Black & Decker, Hilti, and Olin Corporation. His corporate journey meant numerous relocations along the East Coast from Maryland to Massachusetts until finally settling in New Canaan, CT in 1976 where the family called home for the next twenty-three years.
David was deeply involved in his community. Affectionately referred to as “Goob” by family and close friends, he was an enthusiastic supporter and fixture at New Canaan Rams football games. Later in life, he became a proud member of the New Canaan Fire Company as a volunteer firefighter, climbing the “hook and ladder” to the position of Assistant Fire Chief. He also served as Parking Enforcement Manager. Known as “D.C.” around town, he was widely admired for his friendly nature, generosity, and sense of humor. Following his retirement in 1999, Dave and Sandy moved to Mooresville, NC where they routinely enjoyed beautiful evening sunsets on Lake Norman.
David is survived by his wife Sandra of 64 years, three sons, David Jr. (Sue) of Sherrills Ford, NC, LtCol Gregory Stevens, USMC Ret. (Tina) of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Douglas (Amanda) of Fair Haven, NJ. “Grampa Goob” was the beloved grandfather of six grandchildren, Jason, Jessica, Derek, Cole, Ford, and Trent as well as two great-grandchildren, Blythe and Hudson.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories, touching the lives of many with his friendship, kind spirit, and devoted support of family and friends.
Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.
