Raymond George Patterson Jr., known as Ray, passed away on April 28th, 2023, in Howell, NJ. He was 67 years old.
Ray was born in Long Branch, NJ, to his mother Florence and his father Raymond George Patterson Sr. He attended St. James Elementary and Red Bank Catholic High School.
Ray had a diverse career, beginning at the young age of 14. He learned a variety of skills throughout his life, which he applied to his work. Ray was known for his unconventional problem-solving skills and was often called upon to resolve complex issues. He was our "MacGyver." Ray worked for the Boro of Red Bank Water & Sewer Department for 25 years and retired in 2012. However, his most notable accomplishment was turning his passion into a thriving business. Ray became the largest Hess Toy Truck dealer on the East Coast.
Ray was a man of many hobbies and interests. He was a proud member of the Red Bank Volunteer Fire Department, specifically the Independent Engine Company, for 49 years. Ray was also a Life Member of the Red Bank Elks #233. He loved spending time with his family, and his devotion to them was remarkable. Ray was a loving, caring, generous, funny, creative, handy, and proud man.
Ray is survived by his wife Sharon Patterson, his children Kyle Griffin (spouse Alexandra Griffin), Kevin Griffin (spouse Allison Griffin), his grandchildren Keira and Cole Griffin, his mother Florence Patterson and his brother William Patterson. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond George Patterson Sr.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, May 13th from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM with a service at 12:30 PM at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the RBFD Independent Engine Company, located at 171 Hudson Avenue, Red Bank, NJ 07701, or to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, P.O. Box 5028, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5028.
