Frederick “Bud” Rose

On April 8, 2023 Frederick “Bud” Rose, age 90, argued his final case before the Supreme Court of Heaven. As usual, he won, and they admitted him to eternal peace.

Bud had 2 passions, his large and loving family, and the practice of Law, both of which he protected and defended fiercely for more than 60 years. In his personal life and career, his sense of right and justice were always peppered with his warmth and humor.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Judy Cook Rose, his daughter Susie Rose Merrick, his daughter-in-law Jeannie Weinberg Rose, his son JC Sparling, his daughter Nancy Rose Pearson and her husband Dave Pearson, his daughter Jenny Rose Savino and her husband Steve Savino, his daughter Jill Sparling Roe and her husband Chris Roe and the loves of his life, his ten grandchildren: Katie Merrick, Janie Merrick, Johnny Rose, Emily Rose, Lyla Sparling, Charlie Pearson, Tommy Savino, Christopher Savino, Flynn Roe, and Luke Roe. In addition, he is survived by sister Patti Rose Cregut and brother John Rose and his wife Lilias, together with dozens of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son Jeff Rose, his first wife and mother of four of his children, Arlene Aimone Rose, his parents John Rose and Irene Temple Rose, his son-in-law Ben Merrick, and his siblings Alan Rose, Virginia Rose Bridges, and Betty Jean Rose Morales.

He was a proud alum of Blair Academy Class of ‘51, Cornell University Class of ‘55, and Cornell Law School Class of ‘60. While Bud served in many volunteer capacities, his proudest moments were as a Trustee of Cornell Law School, Blair Academy, Rutgers University, and Riverview Medical Center. He was a proud and patriotic veteran of the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps as well as a hugely famous storyteller and jokester who loved an audience.

A private celebration of Bud’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or gifts, anyone wishing to honor Bud’s life is invited to make a donation to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center Monmouth 480 Red Hill Rd. Middletown, NJ 07748 and HMH At-Home Hospice Care, 343 Thornall St., 7th Floor, Edison, NJ 08837, both of whom provided excellent care. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Thompson Memorial Home in Red Bank, NJ.
