Anne "Nancy" Cottell passed away Monday January 30, 2023 at the age of 84.
Nancy, the youngest of nine, was born in Ballinagh, County Cavan, Ireland.
As Nancy was growing up her father was a focal point of her life as her mother died when she was very young. Nancy had a profound love for her father and developed a deep respect for him as he was a single parent that operated a full-time business. She passed on these feelings to her two sons Peter and Patrick frequently saying, "I wish you knew my father". She also imbued in them a sense of 'Irish' determination.
Nancy's love and devotion to her family extended to her four grandchildren, Caitlin, Patrick, Siobhan, and Orla. The times they spent on many driving excursions allowed for stories and teaching of her beloved Ireland and family, as well as her love of Irish music.
Nancy's devotion to others was not confined to her own family, it extended towards service to those less fortunate. Whether it was the unemployed mother, the homeless immigrant or the teenager in a minority community trying to overcome addiction, her commitment to helping people was pervasive throughout her life.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 6, 2023, at 10 a.m. at St. James RC Church, 94 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ. Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
