Shima Suzuki Ingraham of Lakewood, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on October 29th, 2022 at Artis Senior Living in Eatontown, she was 91 years old. Having been a naturalized US citizen, she lived 65 years as a New Jersey resident most recently of the Fairways at Lake Ridge in Lakewood since 2001. She also lived in Toms River, Colonia & Roselle Park. Born in Hokkaido, Japan, she met her husband when he was a naval officer stationed in Japan with the U.S. Navy. Being one of a ten siblings, she was wed in Japan and emigrated to the US in 1957.
An avid gardener, she enjoyed flower arranging, sewing, knitting and all types of arts and crafts works. She was a member of the Ladies of the Lakes and Pines chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, located in Fort Dix.
She was predeceased by her husband, CAPT John H. Ingraham, USNR (Ret.), her parents, Fumio and Fumiyo Suzuki who emigrated from Japan to Brazil in the late 1950's, a sister Matsue Sellers of Texas, another sister Miyoko Yamazaki of Brazil and an infant daughter Cathleen Elizabeth Ingraham, who died shortly after birth in 1958.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, CDR Thomas J. Ingraham, USNR (Ret.) and Mary Jo Ingraham of Little Silver, NJ and Mark J. Ingraham and Katherine Ingraham of New Gloucester, ME and four grandchildren, Emily Ingraham Leahy, Matthew Ingraham, Daniel Ingraham and Allison Ingraham.
She is also survived by two brothers Akiyoshi & Seichi Suzuki and a sister Yuriko Takeuchi of Brazil in addition to four sisters, Yoshiko, Tsuyuko, Suzuko & Riuko who reside in Japan and many nieces & nephews residing in Japan, Brazil & the US.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 3-5 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Visitation will also be held on Friday, November 4, 2022 from 10:30-11:30 am at the funeral home, a Graveside Service will follow at 1 pm at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
