Edna M. Pratt

Edna M. Pratt,101, passed away on March 31 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. She was born in Mineola, NY but had lived in Shrewsbury for over 70 years. 

Growing up, Edna earned the Golden Eaglet from Girl Scouts. Upon graduating from Hofstra University, she went to work as an engineer for the Army Signal Corp. During World War 2, she was part of a team that was responsible for testing a microwave network from Washington, DC to Norfolk, VA and prepared components for integrated circuits.  

She married Isaac H. Pratt in 1946 and had three children. She became supervisor of the Mathematics Department at Monmouth Regional High School where she taught for almost 30 years. Edna received many awards during her career in teaching and published two mathematics books.

Edna loved to crochet, travel, paint, garden, and visit with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After retirement, she became interested in genealogy, traveled to countries of her ancestors, and created a family tree going back 10 generations. She was a member of the Mission Belles of the Shrewsbury Presbyterian Church and the Shrewsbury Senior Homesteaders. Edna donated hundreds of crocheted lap robes to nursing homes in Monmouth County. 

Edna is predeceased by her husband, her parents, brother, two sisters, and son-in-law.  She is survived by her children Richard Pratt (wife Shirley), Elizabeth Napolitano, and Barbara Pratt, her grandchildren Jennifer Pratt Johnson (husband Fred Johnson), Robert Pratt (wife Leah Storer), and Rebecca Pratt and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Shrewsbury Presbyterian Church or any favorite local charity.
