Arthur J. Flanagan, Sr. 95 of Kearny, Fair Haven and Middletown, NJ passed away peacefully on February 26, 2022.
Arthur was born on June 26,1926 in Lyndhurst, NJ, raised in Kearny and a resident of Fair Haven for over 50 years. He was the son of John J. Flanagan Sr. and Jane Marie (Vanderbilt) Flanagan, brother of John J. Flanagan, Jr.
Arthur attended St Stephen’s school, Kearny, graduated from Queen of Peace High School, North Arlington - 1944 and Seton Hall University – 1950. He served In the US Navy during WWII on USS Graffias (AF29) for two years in the Asiatic-Pacific war zone. He was a life member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign war.
Arthur was predeceased by his lifelong friend and beloved wife of 69 years, Alice V. (Feighan) Flanagan. He is survived by four children Arthur J. Flanagan Jr., Michael J. Flanagan, Sr. and his wife Palmina, daughter Jeryl Marra Flanagan, and Timothy J Flanagan. He has four grandchildren Sean P. Burney Jr., Elizabeth A. Flanagan, Michael J. Flanagan, Jr., Catherine A. Flanagan and Patrick Flanagan (deceased).
Arthur was a Pan Am Airways, Corporate Labor Relations executive for twenty-five years, retired in 1986. After retirement, he became an ad hoc arbitrator/mediator until 2002. He served on labor panels of the Federal Mediation and Conciliator service, National Mediation Board, American Arbitrator Service, Regional United States Postal Service panels, NYC Building Service panel, and New Jersey and New York arbitrator/mediation panels. In his free time, he and Alice loved to travel within his beloved USA, to many destinations abroad, including Italy and the Algarve and spend time with their extended family. He also loved the Giants and Yankees, (pre-Steinbrenner).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 5th, 2022 at 12pm at St. Anthony’s of Padua Church, 121 Bridge Ave, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Interment will be private. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.
