Chauncey S. Lehmann of Middletown, son of the late William F. and Sarah W. Lehmann, died peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 6, 2022. He was 89 years old. Born in Mercer County, Chauncey grew up in the Bayshore area of Middletown and considered himself a true clam digger. He graduated from Leonardo High School (now Middletown North), Class of 1951, where he lettered in all sports but baseball was his passion. He and his brother Bill were well known in the area for their play with American Legion baseball and the Leonardo Field Club.
Chauncey went on to play semi-pro ball with the Roswell (New Mexico) Rockets of the Longhorn League until he was drafted into the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant. Chauncey was employed in marine construction in the New York Metro area, retiring from Spearin, Preston, & Burrows, Inc.
He was a 60-year member of the Red Bank United Methodist Church (UMCRB) and American Legion Post 338, Leonardo. Chauncey was predeceased by his brother, William F. Lehmann. Jr. He is survived by his wife Jane, daughter Anne, son Peter, and two nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the UMCRB Scholastic Assistance, 247 Broad Street, Red Bank, NJ 07701 or a veteran’s organization of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be sent to the Thompson Memorial Home website. A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Middletown on Thursday, February 10 at 1 p.m.
