Sandra Jean Coger, 74, of Ocean Twp, passed away suddenly on January 28th, 2022.
She was born in Chicago, IL on December 10, 1947. She spent her early childhood in Michigan before moving to Edison, NJ and then settling with her family on Woodview Drive in Old Bridge when she was in her early teens. The families on Woodview Drive formed lifelong friendships that time and distance couldn’t fade. She graduated from Madison Township High School in 1965.
Sandy married Douglas Coger on June 7th, 1969. Doug was more than just her husband; he was her partner in life and in business throughout their 52 plus years of marriage. Together, with their 2 young children, they settled in Old Bridge, on Stevens Ave in 1977. Backyard barbecues and pool parties were a weekly occurrence in the summers and Super Bowl parties were looked forward to every winter. Their house was always open to everyone. Sandy didn’t just touch the lives of those she met, she became part of their lives. Whether someone needed a babysitter, a place to stay or a place to live, her door was always open.
She was a stay-at-home mom, always there for her children, attending all their school and sporting events, hosting birthday parties and the neighborhood kids. She especially loved going to little league games. She also worked from home, where she and Doug started Coger Contracting. For most of the last 30 years, she worked every day with her husband and 2 adult children at Reliable Fire Protection, where she worked longer and harder than anyone, just beginning to talk of retirement at the age of 75, though she looked and acted so much younger.
In 2019, she moved to a new community where she made many new friends, welcoming them into her driveway, her garage, her home and her heart.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alidor and Jean LaGrou, and her sister, Darlene LaGrou.
She is survived by her husband Doug, her daughter Sheryl (Sheri) and “son”-in-law Vinny; her son Doug (Dougie) and “daughter”-in-law Amy; her five grandchildren, Kevin, Logan, Ryan, Hailey and Molly, who loved their nana as much as she loved them; her sister Valerie and brother Al; her nieces and nephews and their spouses and children; and so many others who were family to her. Her warmth, generosity and kindness will be missed by all that had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 2nd from 4 to 7 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ. Facial masks are required. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 3rd at 11:00 am at Church of St Anselm, 1028 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls. Burial will follow at Fair View Cemetery in Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the New Jersey Institute for Disabilities at njid.org/donate.
