Beverly Meryl Sommers

Beverly Meryl Sommers (nee Berke) left us on 1/22/22, at the age of 79. She was born in Orange, NJ, on Dec. 5th, 1942 and grew up in Middletown, NJ. She then resided in Highlands, NJ for 45 years. Meryl was a 1964 graduate of Trenton College with a major in elementary education achieving two master’s degree at a later time. She worked as an elementary school teacher in Middletown, NJ until she retired. She also worked part-time for many years at Sands Beach Club.

Meryl was predeceased by her parents Arthur L. and Josephine (Zieger) Berke. She is survived by a sister Phyllis Berke Brockman and her husband Sam of Martins Creek, PA; Nieces Jennifer Brockman Hillis of Mt. Bethel, PA, and Connie Brockman of Thomaston, Maine; Nephews Sam of San Antonio, TX, Jim of Ada, OK, Tim of KC, Mo. Meryl is also survived by grand-nephews and grand-nieces Joseph, Noah, Jacob, Avery, Alison, and Kayla. plus many relatives, friends, and former students.

Due to Covid-19, a private family memorial service was held at Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank, NJ.

Meryl was a loving and generous friend of all who knew her. In lieu of flowers the family suggest a donation be made to the Firth Youth Center, 108 Fleming Dr., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.
