Salvatore Joseph (Sal) Mirrione, 94, of Red Bank, NJ, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2020. Sal was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Pasquale and Marianne Mirrione. He was one of 10 siblings, all of whom predeceased him. Married to his wife, Bernadette (Billie), for 66 years, together they raised their 6 children in Brooklyn and Hollis, NY.
A proud veteran of World War II, Sal fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was a Purple Heart recipient. Following his service to his country, he had a career as a linotype operator and proofreader for Paramount and Sorg printing companies in Manhattan, NY. Upon retirement, Sal and Billie moved to Toms River, NJ and enjoyed many happy years there. For the last several years, Sal resided with his daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Carlos.
Sal enjoyed travel, reading, and music; had a love for languages, and a quick wit. He was a loving and devoted husband and father who will be dearly missed and will always be in our hearts. Predeceased by his wife Bernadette (Nolan) Mirrione and his son Robert, Sal was the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia and son-in-law, Carlos Crespo; his daughter, Carol and son-in-law, Fred Fuller; his daughter, Louise and son-in-law, Timothy Slominsky; his son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Lucille Mirrione; his daughter, Nancy Connena; and many nieces and nephews.
“God saw that he was getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around him and whispered ‘Come to Me’.”
Due to the current health crisis, a Celebration of Life Service for family and friends will be held at a later date. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank, NJ has been entrusted with the arrangements.
