Claire Janet Power

Claire Janet Power

Claire Janet Power passed away peacefully on Monday November 6, surrounded by family. All who knew Claire remember her as a source of strength, caring, and love, and we mourn her loss.

Claire was born to Albert and Anna Chassey in Brockton, Massachusetts on August 8, 1937. The youngest of four siblings, Claire is survived by her brother Raymond. Graduating Brockton High in 1954, she soon met her future husband, Peter Power. They were wed on April 6, 1958.

An avid lover of the arts and an accomplished artist herself, Claire taught herself to sketch, paint with oils, play piano and guitar. She combined love of music with her devotion to the church, as a member of the Saint James folk choir and later the Monmouth Civic Chorus, with whom she traveled and sang in some of the great cathedrals in Europe. Family, faith, and music were cornerstones of Claire’s life.

To her family, she was a model of good sense and good action that still serves as an example to us all. Claire is survived by her children Lisa Christman (& Jim), Lynn deRouen (& Mark), Chris (& Diane), Amy Sergeant (& Mark), Jill Beitel (& Wade), Gary (& Lynn), Sean (& Suzanne) and Lauren; by her grandchildren Arielle, Ashleigh, Emily, Morgan, Tyler, Samantha, Hilary, Madeline, Matthew, Abigail, Erin, Amelia, Peter, Evan, Tori, Thomas, Jack, Alana and Anna; and finally, by her great grandchildren Liam, Hunter, Austen, Wyld, Clark, Mateo, and Lola.

Memorial Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16th from 4-7 pm at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St, Red Bank, NJ 07701. Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, November 17th at 10 am at Church of the Nativity, 180 Ridge Rd, Fair Haven, NJ 07704. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made by mail to The Seabrook Resident Care Fund, 3000 Essex Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753.
