Laverne Haase

Laverne Haase age 87, was called Home to join her late husband Edward Haase Jr, on February 19, 2018. Laverne was born in Washington, Missouri to Viola and John Breeden. She was one of seven children. While working in St. Louis as a registered nurse, Laverne met the love of her life. Ed swept her off her feet to Fairfield Connecticut, where they raised their four children. Her strong sense of family and welcoming way, made it easy for her children’s friends to call the Haase residence there second home. Laverne loved to cook, bake pies for a local restaurant, throw parties, play cards and always looked forward to the family summer road trips.

After her children were grown, she and Ed moved back to Missouri. Laverne coveted family time, playing bingo, going to the riverboat casinos and just sitting around a table talking and laughing for hours on end.

In Laverne and Ed’s twilight years they moved back East to New Jersey, to be close to her children and grandchildren.

Laverne was in a class of her own. She lit up every room she entered. She was the life of the party. She loved to tell stories, engaging all ages with her witty sense of humor. Describing Laverne as a young-hearted, independent, free spirit, with a zest for life is truly an understatement. She made friends everywhere she went. She had an uncanny knack for drawing people in.  Everyone loved Laverne. We are all richer for having Laverne in our lives, except for those who played cards with her. She loved to take her opponents quarters when playing Contract Rummy.

Surviving Laverne are her two sisters Delores Gardner and June Craig, her four children: Tracey Schuelzky, grandson Gunnar, Allyson Haase, Todd Haase, Candace DesRoches and two granddaughters Autumn and Lila. She is also survived by three very special people; who she considered family; her dear friend Margo, Sue Ann Stelfox, who she loved as a daughter, and Tom Deegan, a son to her in every way. Their unwavering love and dedication to making Laverne’s life richer will never be forgotten. Laverne will forever be remembered as a dedicated wife, loving friend, doting mom and extremely cool grandma. Rest in Peace My Love.

A private Memorial services to be held at a later date.
