welcome

Charlie Hopkins left us on 12/27/2020. He was born in Brooklyn, NY and enjoyed many summers in Monmouth Beach. He attended high school at Brooklyn Prep then went on to graduate from Polytechnic Institute of New York with a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering. He started his engineering career with The City of New York then went on to work for Gibbs & Cox NYC for many years. Charlie ultimately settled in Middletown in 1987 where he and his wife Margaret raised their daughter Samantha. In Middletown, Charlie continued his career at T&M Associates and retired in 2019. He loved engineering and was a great mentor to many. Charlie loved to fly kites and attend kite festivals all over the Eastern Seaboard. He enjoyed The New York Times crossword puzzles, visiting museums, music, and spending time having meaningful discussions with his friends and family.

Charlie was a wonderful, thoughtful husband and the most loving father. He is survived by his wife Maggie (Margaret Amato) and his daughter Samantha. He is also survived by his siblings Larry (Milford, CT), Mary Long (Long Beach, MS), Margy Kearney & husband Tom (Pittsburgh, PA), Frank & wife Wendy (New Bern, NC), and Tom & wife Caroline (Claremont, CA). Charles is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and relatives on both his side and Maggie's whom he loved.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 30th from 4-7 p.m. at Thompson Memorial Home, 310 Broad St., Red Bank, NJ 07701. There will be a short prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Maggie and Sam certainly understand many of you will not be able to be with us at this time. We do, however, look forward to the future when we can visit and celebrate Charlie's life with each of you. In keeping with the current state mandates regarding COVID-19, face coverings must be worn by all visitors and Guests will be directed to briefly greet the family and exit the building as soon as possible thereafter as only 25 persons are allowed in the funeral home at a time. In keeping with his wishes, Charlie will be cremated.  In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), 533 W.
